BRENHAM ISD BOARD TO CONSIDER TAX RATES FOR NEW SCHOOL YEAR

The Brenham School Board is holding a special meeting this (Monday) morning, to discuss potential tax rates for the upcoming school year.

Several district officials have suggested that the tax rate remain at $1.04 per $100 valuation.  A 2.5 percent “midpoint” salary increase was approved for district employees at a recent meeting, granting an average raise of nearly $1,300 for individual teachers.

This salary increase would cost the district roughly $806,000.  Financial projections for the district estimate an increase of around $750,000 in total revenues.

Board trustees plan to set dates and times for public comments on proposed tax rates and the district’s budget for the new school year.

The board will also look at bids for band instruments and child nutrition and cleaning products, receive an update on the Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (STEAM) program, host a workshop on the proposed budget, and consider BISD’s title as a Chapter 41 school district.  This designation classifies Brenham as a “rich district,” which requires it to share funds with poorer districts.

The board will meet at noon in the Brenham ISD Administration Office at 711 East Mansfield Street.
