2019 BRENHAM & BURTON VOLLEYBALL SEASONS TO BEGIN

The 2019 high school volleyball season kicks off tonight all across the state, including Brenham and Burton.

At the Brenham High School Gym, the Cubettes open the schedule with Brazos Consolidated.

Cubettes head coach Debbie Yeager, appearing on Monday’s Sports Line, it’s always exciting to kick off a brand new season…

The Cubettes were 26-16 in 2018, qualifying for the playoffs for the first time in three years.  The Cubettes return 10 members from last year’s team, including three starters and several others who saw significant playing time.

Yeager says this year’s players returned in great shape…

The Cubettes/Brazos matchup gets underway at 7:00 tonight at the Cub Gym.  This weekend the Cubettes will take part in the Round Rock tournament.

The Burton Lady Panthers also open up the season at home, hosting Schulenburg at the Burton gymnasium.

The Lady Panthers are coming off a 36-11 season in 2018, which saw the team take the district championship and advance to the Region IV/2A finals before falling to Thorndale.

Coach Katie Kieke, also appearing on Monday’s Sports Line, says this year’s team is ready to get the season under way…

All but two players from last year’s team return for 2018.

Kieke says these first couple weeks will help mold the team and set the tone for the 2019 campaign…

The Lady Panthers and Schulenburg will get started shortly after 6:00 this evening at the Burton gym.  This Thursday and Saturday, Burton will be taking part in the Franklin Tournament.
