BLINN STEI BUILDING LEADS HISTORIC MONTH OF BUILDING PERMITS
The City of Brenham’s March building permit totals were some of the largest seen in recent memory.

The city issued 24 permits in March worth a whopping $37,157,295, far exceeding last March’s 26 permits for $2,927,952. Development Services Administrative Assistant Sarah Hill said last month’s totals were the highest she could find going back to 2013.
By far, March’s largest permit was issued to Vaughn Construction for $27,703,383, for Blinn College’s new Science, Technology, Engineering and Innovation Building on the Brenham Campus. The 72,000-square-foot facility will include 17,000 square feet of laboratory space and a 3,000-square-foot innovation lab. The facility, scheduled to be completed in time for Blinn’s Fall 2021 semester, will provide expanded lab spaces for Blinn’s science, engineering, and health science programs.
The second largest permit in March was issued to Goff Companies representing Brenham’s First Baptist Church for $5,578,934, covering construction for a new church building. Blue Bell Creameries had the next largest permit at $2,984,008, for new construction and paving at the company’s milk bay building.
Four new homes were permitted in March, worth $543,782. So far this year, the city has permitted 22 new homes for $3,310,717.
So far this year, the city has issued 90 permits for $44,689,814. Through this point last year, the city issued 69 permits, worth $8,147,029.
