BURTON NATIVE EARNS POSTSEASON COLLEGE FOOTBALL HONORS

Caleb Harmel

Former Burton Panther Caleb Harmel continues to build on his college career at Trinity University. After making Second Team All-Conference as a sophomore, Harmel made the jump this season to being named the Southern Athletic Association's Defensive Player of the Year. On the season, the junior linebacker for the Tigers recorded 70 tackles, eight for loss, two sacks, two forced fumbles, and had two interceptions.

The Trinity Tigers had the third best defense this past season in NCAA Division III. The Tigers ended their year with a 9-1 record after falling to No.2 Mary Hardin-Baylor this past Saturday 13-3. In that game, Harmel tallied a career high 16 tackles to lead the Tigers against a Crusader offense that had been averaging 55 points a game. It was Trinity's first NCAA Division III playoff appearance since 2011.
