The Caldwell Police Department will soon be getting a new officer of the four- legged variety.

The non-profit organization, K9s4COPS, has awarded the department with a grant for a single-purpose narcotics trained K-9 officer.

The grant was made possible by a generous donation from Dr. Sam Harrison and his wife Julie Barnett Harrison of Bryan.

Currently, Caldwell PD does not have a K-9 officer, and when the situation arises, they have to borrow one from other nearby law enforcement agencies.

Once the city of Caldwell completes the grant agreement, the dog’s handler will be sent to Houston for three weeks of training.

K9s4COPS has donated 250 K-9s to law enforcement agencies across the country and globally.

So far, their dogs have assisted in taking over $2 billion worth of contraband off of the streets.
