ERCOT CALLS ON TEXANS TO CONSERVE ENERGY AFTER SIX FACILITIES TRIP OFFLINE FRIDAY

The Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) is asking Texans to conserve power this weekend as residents prepare for the onset of summer.

ERCOT announced that six power generation facilities tripped offline Friday afternoon, resulting in the loss of approximately 2,900 MW of electricity.  ERCOT said all available generation resources are operating at this time.

ERCOT says with “unseasonably hot weather driving record demand across Texas,” residents are asked to conserve power when they can.  That includes setting thermostats to 78-degrees or above and avoiding using large appliances like dishwashers, washers and dryers during peak hours between 3 p.m. and 8 p.m. this weekend.

  1. We’ve had extra charges added to our bills FOR YEARS to pay for upgrades in equipment and lines. So is any of that actually being done or has that money been pocketed over the years….

  2. Which is it first?…….Expanding the power grid or continue to build 1000’s of new homes, businesses etc. in this state?

  3. It seemed as though when all of the board members resigned in the first part of 2021 shortly after the winter storm Yuri incident, that the appointees by the governor were going to get things in shape and make sure nothing more was ever to go wrong with the power grid in our state. Seemingly, there’s still a bunch of generation facilities that are offline, and some of the appointees to the ERCOT governance board almost seem to be in a conflict of interest situation. From the ERCOT website: “Carlos Aguilar is President, CEO, and board member of Texas Central Partners LLC, a Texas-based company developing the high-speed train that will connect North Texas to Houston.” Let’s see, a man who is firmly involved in the high-speed rail project which would be electrically powered serves on the board of governance to direct the electrical resources for the residents of Texas… Strange how the biographical sketch says that the high-speed train WILL connect North Texas to Houston, almost like there was some guarantee of that..
My last electrical bill from Bluebonnet was $54.35, and my entire household is electric. I live in a 2100 sq ft house that is almost 60 years old and is untouched in terms of upgrades or remodeling, but was well-built, heavily insulated, and trees planted around it shade it the majority of the day. I’ll bet that none of the ‘energy efficient’ homes in the subdivisions being developed around Brenham would have any electric bills that could match up to that. I think people need to think back to the 1970’s and early 1980’s when curtailing wasted energy resources was in the forefront of our thinking. Turn off lights if you’re going to be out of that room for more than 5 minutes, up the thermostat several degrees when no one is at home, and hang those wet clothes on a line to dry. It also seems that there’s a lot of electrical lights left on after dark in every town that you might go through, many of which are unneeded and all of which keep the electrical system laboring away.

  4. Hummmm…. Let’s think about this for a minute why don’t we? They want us to purchase and drive electric vehicles in order to “save” the world. However, the electrical grid has been tripped in the middle of May,(not the hottest month of the year) due to high volume of consumption. Now they want us to conserve energy so it doesn’t happen again. Just exactly how are these electric car people supposed to recharge over night during the hours ERCOT requested? Seems to me it’s a vicious cycle of peat and repeat. If the government wants everyone to operate electrical vehicles the electrical grid needs to be fixed and have a better supply for the demand. This is just like anything else the government messes with, politicians will be well taken care of while we the common folk pay through the nose and suffer the consequences of their actions
