Brenham High School’s longtime head coach for the boys track and field program is calling it a career.

Jerry Newman is retiring after 38 years with Brenham ISD.

Newman said he feels now was the right time to step away.

Newman said that out of his 38 years with the boys track program, there have been only five when Brenham did not send a student to the state meet.

Newman said all of the accolades are not possible without the talent and work ethic of the students.

In retirement, Newman plans to spend more time doing yard and garden work and being with family.

  1. Congratulations, Coach Newman! During my time as Superintendent of BISD, you were someone I could always count on to take care of your program with integrity and class. You deserve a great retirement! Enjoy your grand babies!

  2. Congratulations Coach Newman. Hope you have things to do, and someone to do it with, you are going to have lots of time. Always a nice guy, class act. Kids were always prepared. Our teams competed well against each other for about ten years while I was Track Coach with Waller ISD.

  3. My congratulations to Mr. Newman on his retirement. I’ve worked with and around Mr Newman for many years and I appreciate all the great things he has done for our students and our community.
