FORMER CUBETTE HEAD BASKETBALL COACH PASSES AWAY

Former Brenham Cubette Head Basketball Coach Curt Campbell passed away on Monday at the age of 66.

Campbell was coach of the Cubettes from 1993-1998.  He also taught English and later became the lead counselor at Brenham High School.

Campbell was born in Hagerstown, Maryland, but later moved to Texas, where he graduated from Grapevine High School.

Campbell went to night school at the University of Texas at Arlington, and later got his Bachelor of Science Degree, and Master of Science Degree in Physical Education and English at Stephen F. Austin State University.

He started his 37 year career in education with Douglass, and then went on to Mexia, Lockhart, Brenham, and finally Montgomery.

Campbell is survived by his wife of 42 years, Tracy, his daughters and son-in-laws, Marie and Travis Meier, and Christine and Andrew Cmajdalka, and three grandchildren; Rose, Harper, and Hadley.  He is also survived by his mother Margaret Kohoutek, his sister Wendy, and brothers Wayne and Bruce Campbell.

The visitation for Curt Campbell is Thursday from 4-6pm at Memorial Oaks Chapel in Brenham. A celebration of his life will follow at the Saddlehorn Winery Event Room on Friday at 4:30pm.

  1. CURT CAMPBELL BETTER KNOWN AS COACH CAMPBELL TO. I WAS ABLE TO ENDURE HIS PRESCENE AND WAS HONOR TO CALL HIM MY 7-8 GRADE GIRLS BASKETBALL COACH AS WELL AS TRACK COACH. HE WAS A VERY GREAT MAN OF INTEGRITY AND HE MAY HAVE SEEMED AS IF HE WAS FUSSING AT US ALL, HE TRULY WASN’T, HE WAS ONLY PUSHING US TO BE BETTER AND TO GO ABOVE WHAT WE MAY HAVE EXPECTED OF OURSELVES. HE ALSO WAS AN ENGLISH TEACHER OF MINE AS WELL AND HIS MEMORIES WILL LOVE ON AND BEYOND AND HIS FAMILY HAS MY DEEPEST CONDOLENCES AND I AM STILL IN VERY MUCH OF AWE. MAY PEACE BE WITH YOU ALL

  3. Curt Campbell was a great guy. He was a man of integrity and instilled that in his students/players. He made me people feel at ease and joyful. I am a better person for having known him.
