FOOD FOR FAMILIES FOOD DRIVE WEDNESDAY

Community members are invited today (Wednesday) to help stop hunger in the Brazos Valley by contributing to the 27th Annual KBTX Food for Families Food Drive.

A map of the route participants in the Food for Families Food Drive will take through the Washington County Expo.

Seven donation locations are open around the region until 7 p.m., where people can drop off canned goods, non-perishable items and monetary donations for the Brazos Valley Food Bank.  Contributions will stay in the county they are collected in.

Places to donate are the Washington County Expo Food Court in Brenham, the MidSouth Electric Co-op operations facility in Navasota, St. Mary’s Lady of the Lourdes Catholic Church in Caldwell, the Brazos Center in Bryan, Son-Shine Outreach Center in Madisonville, the Hearne Railroad Depot in Hearne, and Pridgeon Community Center in Franklin.

Suggested items include canned meats and vegetables, spaghetti sauce, pasta, soups, cereal, chili, peanut butter and rice.

Washington County beneficiaries include Bread Partners of Washington County, Burton Bridge Ministry, Faith Mission, Prairie Hill Food Pantry, and Washington Mobile Pantry at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church.

Last year’s event collected 16,635 pounds of food and raised $18,039.  This year, organizers are looking to hit 20,000 pounds and $25,000.
