BURLESON COUNTY SHERIFF NAMES NEW CHIEF DEPUTY
Burleson County Sheriff Gene Hermes has named his new Chief Deputy.
Bill Rios was chosen to take the position formerly occupied by Garrett Durrenberger, who recently took the Sheriff’s job in Lee County.
Rios is a retired Houston Police Officer, who has over 36 years of law enforcement experience. He had most recently been serving as the school resource officer for Somerville ISD.
Hermes said he chose Rios, because of his time in Houston, where he served in multiple capacities.
Rios told the Burleson County Tribune that his family bought property in Burleson County 12 years ago, and just fell in love with the area.
When he retired from HPD in 2019, the Rios family made Burleson County their permanent home.
Rios originally joined the Burleson County Sheriff’s Office as a reserve deputy, and later became the school resource officer.
Sheriff Hermes said that when the school year starts, regular law enforcement officers will provide the SRO services until a replacement can be named.
