TEXAS STATE HISTORIAN RETURNING TO BRENHAM HERITAGE MUSEUM FOR JULY 13 PRESENTATION
Texas State Historian Dr. Richard B. McCaslin is set to return to the Brenham Heritage Museum for a special presentation on Monday, as part of the Dr. Wilfred Dietrich Speaker Series.

The program, titled “Fighting Stock: John S. ‘Rip’ Ford of Texas”, will be held at the museum from 6 to 7 p.m., with a members-only reception at 5:30 p.m. Food and refreshments will be provided.
Drawing from his award-winning biography on Ford, Dr. McCaslin will examine the life of one of 19th-century Texas’ most influential figures. Ford is best known as a Texas Ranger and military commander, but he also served as a physician, lawyer, newspaper editor, legislator, mayor and historian. Dr. McCaslin’s presentation will offer a deeper look at Ford’s lasting influence on the political, civic and cultural development of Texas.
Dr. McCaslin, appointed by Governor Greg Abbott as the fifth Texas State Historian in December, serves as Director of Publications for the Texas State Historical Association (TSHA) after a career as the TSHA Professor of Texas History at the University of North Texas. He has written or edited 22 books, earning numerous state and national awards for his scholarship on Texas history.
Copies of Dr. McCaslin's books will be available for purchase at the museum following the presentation.
The museum thanks Humanities Texas, the state affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities, for its support of the event.
Admission is free for Brenham Heritage Museum members and $15 for non-members.
