50 POUNDS OF MARIJUANA FOUND IN VEHICLE ON I-10

  

50 pounds of marijuana was found hidden in a vehicle in Fayette County Tuesday.  Fayette County Sheriff Keith Korenek reports that on Tuesday afternoon, SGT Randy Thumann and K9 partner Lobos, stopped a Chrysler Town and Country van on Interstate 10 at the at 2:45 pm for a traffic violation.  After speaking to the driver, who was extremely nervous and had an unbelievable travel itinerary, Thumann became suspicious he was involved in transporting illegal narcotics. SGT Thumann was given consent to search the vehicle. SGT Thumann deployed his canine Lobos to conduct and exterior sweep of the vehicle. Lobos alerted to the presence of illegal narcotics and followed the odor inside the vehicle to the floor cargo storage area. SGT Thumann accessed the storage compartment and observed it was filled with bundles of marihuana. Thumann removed approximately 50 pounds of marijuana from the vehicle with an estimated street value of $25,000 dollars.  Marco Velasquez (32) of San Elizario, Texas was charged with Felony Possession of Marijuana and transported to the Fayette County Jail.
