6TH ANNUAL WATERMELON RUN TO BE HELD AUGUST 15

The Watermelon Run For the Fallen, which honors fallen service men and women who paid the ultimate sacrifice to to defend the nation, will host it’s 6th Annual walk/run/roll on August 15 in Hempstead.

The event began in 2010 in memory of Hempstead native SSG Jeffery Hartley who was killed in action on his 5th deployment in Iraq. Jeffery grew up in Hempstead and loved his community.

The event will have no vendors or tables pushing pamphlets to promote anything. It is solely dedicated to pay respect to war heroes.

The Southeast Texas PGR will ride the morning of the event, to the Hempstead High School football field to begin the morning’s events.

There will be skydivers who will carry a 5,000 sq. ft. American Flag into the football field.

Lonestar Freedom Flight will fly brief air show ending in the missing man formation.

There will be live music, along with numerous other military displays.
