ABBOTT SAYS PRO SPORTS COULD RETURN BY END OF MONTH

Texas Governor Greg Abbott and governors from New York and California said Monday that professional sports could resume in the near future.

All major sports have been shut down since March because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Gov. Abbott said professional sports without fans could resume here at the end of May. In addition, he said Little League baseball can resume play with parents watching under social distancing guidelines.

The PGA is slated to return to play, June 11-14 with the Charles Schwab Challenge at Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth.

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo said he is now encouraging major sports teams in the state to plan on reopening without fans.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom later said sports could resume without fans in his state as soon as the "first week or so of June."

Governors in Florida and Arizona had previously announced that their states were open to have pro sports resume there.
