ACTIVIST GROUP TO HOLD FORUM ON LAKE SOMERVILLE LEASE AUCTION

A local activist group is holding a public forum next Thursday to raise awareness of the upcoming land auction at Lake Somerville.

The Bureau of Land Management is planning to auction off oil and gas production rights to some 1,700 acres of land under and surrounding the Corps of Engineers Lake Somerville Reservoir on June 6, 2017.

In an effort to halt the auction, and raise public awareness, Texas Rural Voices is holding a public forum on Thursday, May 25, at the Blinn College Student Center Conference Room, from 6:30 - 8:30 pm.

There will be a presentation of the potential risks to the water supply from drilling and fracking, and information on the water sources throughout the state which have already suffered damages.

Guest speakers will be Dennis Williams, local resident and chemist with a lifetime of working with the oil and gas industry internationally, and Luke Metzger, Director, Environment Texas.  Refreshments will be served.
