AFL-CIO ENDORSES CECIL WEBSTER FOR DIST. 13 STATE REP.

The political arm of the AFL-CIO union has endorsed the Democrat in the race for District 13 State Representative.

Cecil Webster, Sr.

Democrat Cecil Webster has announced that The Committee on Political Education, the political arm of the AFL-CIO, has endorsed him in both the May 5th Special Election and the November General Election.  In the Special Election, Webster is seeking to fill the unexpired term of State Representative Leighton Schubert, who resigned in February.  Republicans Ben Leman and Jill Wolfskill are also seeking that position.  Leman and Wolfskill are also in a runoff election on May 22nd for the Republican nomination and the right to face Webster in November.

Webster said he is extremely pleased to accept the endorsement of the AFL-CIO Committee on Political Education.  He said, “Unions have a long, storied history in protecting the rights of workers and in development of a middle class in America.  When unions thrive, the middle class thrives.  That is what makes America great, and will keep us that way.”

Webster has also been endorsed by the Rural Action Women of District 10.  Texas House District 13 includes the counties of Washington, Grimes, Austin, Burleson, Fayette, Colorado and Lavaca.

  1. Cecil is far more qualified than the other two candidates because his life has been devoted to public service with a history of leadership and teaching. During the pre primary candidates forum, he was the only candidate for this special election who stated he was NOT in favor of compensation for private school vouchers or credits. Because Cecil Webster knows this would STARVE out public education in favor of for profit schools and deprive the majority of rural Texas children of a quality education. Fewer resources for our schools would also effect athletic programs the community enjoys. And rural Texas IS Washington County. A vote for Cecil Webster is a vote for public education in every way.
