AGGIE STUDENT BONFIRE TO BURN TONIGHT

Aggie Bonfire will burn Saturday night.

The student-run bonfire was postponed by rain back in November, but organizers say it’s ready to go tonight at its off-campus site, off Old Hearne Road near Old San Antonio Road in Robertson County.

The bonfire is scheduled for 8 p.m. tonight (Saturday), and student organizer Andrew Pekowski says it will be a good night for a burn.

Pekowski says it doesn't matter that the football season is over, because “building the bonfire is not about the game. It's entirely for the students, built by students for other Aggies.”

The student-run bonfire is not sanctioned by Texas A&M.  No bonfire has burned on-campus since 1999, when the stack collapsed, killing twelve people.

Organizers of the off-campus bonfire say significant changes were made to the construction of Bonfire to make it safer.

The bonfire is organized by students and funded by donations.
