The race for the At-Large Position Six seat of the Brenham City Council is now a contested one.

Albert Buchanan has filed for the seat currently held by Susan Cantey, who is not seeking re-election.  Leah Cook has also filed for the position.

Buchanan is the co-owner of Thai Cowboy in Brenham, and formerly served as park ranger and supervisor at Washington on the Brazos State Park.

Buchanan says he wants to help manage the growth of Brenham to ensure it is done correctly.

Buchanan came to Brenham after retiring from a career in facilities engineering management and project management with Westin Hotels.  He has published writing and photography from working at Sierra Magazine and the Pacific News Service.  He has also worked at Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming.

In addition to improving traffic flow as the city expands and enhancing care for low-income residents, Buchanan says he wants to use his background in parks to further develop Brenham’s park system.

Albert and his wife, Sasimaporn, also known as “Nang,” have a son, Aaron, who attends school in Burton.

Today (Friday) was the final day for candidates to apply for a place on the ballot.  Tuesday is the last day to file as a write-in candidate.  Election Day is Saturday, May 1st.

  1. Great guy if i could vote for him i would. Meet him in Round top texas at the bi yearly Round top antique fair. His family creates a very freindly atmosphere at the Thia cowboy restaurant. I could see him helping to lead the way!

  2. Albert is the right man for the job. He has a lifetime of knowledge and experience that the city could use. He is a family man, father, husband, small business owner, and an extremely easygoing and intelligent person. I would trust him to run or manage anything. I would wager that he could do a much better job than the current City Manager. He is that good.
Vote for Albert! You will be pleased.
