ALLISON JAMES NAMED NEW WASHINGTON CO. 4-H EXTENSION AGENT

Washington County has a new County 4-H Extension Agent.

Allison James

Allison James was selected for the position during commissioners court today (Tuesday). James fills the position formerly held by Charles Seely, who resigned from the post in August.

James, who is currently the County 4-H Extension Agent in Kleburg County, is no stranger to the area, as she is a native of Austin County. She has a Bachelor’s degree in Ag Communication from Texas A&M University, and expects to soon receive her Master’s degree in Ag Development.

District Extension Coordinator Donnie Montemayor said there were quite a lot of candidates for the position, but having James as an internal candidate was very beneficial as she has already been trained to some degree.

County Commissioners commended Montemayor and everyone with Washington County 4-H for quickly filling the vacant position. County Judge Durrenberger said commissioners were “very pleased”, noting that when he first spoke with Montemayor following Seely’s resignation, the timeline to find a new Extension Agent was likely five or six months.

James will begin her new duties on November 1st.

Also in court today, commissioners:

  • Approved a letter agreement from Rutledge Crain and Company to provide auditing services to Washington County for 2019.  The audit will be due June 30, 2020.  The county has $37,500 budgeted to have the audit performed.
  • Approved a contract with Otis Elevator Company to provide labor and material for the elevator in the courthouse annex, and for maintenance to the elevators in the courthouse and courthouse annex.  County Facilities Manager Bobby Branham said the repairs for the annex elevator will cost $56,617, but the five-year maintenance contract will save the county “a boatload of money”.
  • Approved a subdivision variance request for a land division fronting Wm Penn Road in Precinct One.
  • Granted the county auditor authority to conduct the FY 2019 Chapter 59 Asset Forfeiture Report.
  • Approved the 2019 Emergency Management Performance Grant.
  • Heard a series of monthly reports.
