ASTROS CLINCH A.L. PLAYOFF SERIES WITH SWEEP

The Houston Astros broke open a tight game with three runs in the 7th and six runs in the 8th en route to an 11-3 win over Cleveland.

The Astros sweep the A.L. Division Playoff series, 3-0.

Colin McHugh picks up the win in relief of starter Dallas Kuechel, who left the game trailing, 2-1.

George Springer sparked the defense with three hits, including a pair of homers.  Carlos Correa put the game out of reach with a three-run homer in the eighth.

The Astros await the winner of the Boston/New York series, which is tied at one win apiece.  If the Red Sox win, the Astros will travel to Boston to open the series.  If the Yankees win, Houston will host the opener.

The A.L. Championship games can be heard on KWHI AM 1280 and FM 101.7.

  1. Marwin Gonzales drove in a couple of key runs today also. I think maybe the go ahead runs after Springer’s homer tied it ( I may be wrong on the sequence but they were critical runs, just not the highlight reel HRs) He also went 4 for 4 in yesterday’s win. Bregman was quietly on base 5 times today. The HRs make the headlines , but the little things make the winners. We got both!
