AUSTIN CO. COMMISSIONERS TO DECIDE JAIL FATE, JULY 23RD

Austin County Commissioners are set to make a decision at their meeting July 23rd, whether to hold a bond election for the jail and sheriff’s office.

County Judge Tim Lapham says architect Ken Burns will present the court with several options for construction and costs.

Mold was found in the jail last summer, leading to the relocation of prisoners to Fort Bend County and forcing the sheriff’s office to operate out of a portable building.

Since then, some temporary improvements have been made allowing for male prisoners to return.  Female prisoners are still being housed in Richmond.

If the commissioners vote to hold a bond election, it would be held in conjunction with the November 6th.

Austin Co. Commissioners meet Monday, July 23rd at 9:00 a.m. at the courthouse in Bellville.
