Austin County crowned the queen for its 90th Fair last (Thursday) night at the fairgrounds in Bellville.
Aunnika Wittner was announced as 2017 Austin County Fair Queen, and Meghan Hein was crowned as the Ticket Queen, having sold $19,245 in tickets. The 19 candidates sold a combined $137,640 in tickets to this year’s fair. First runner up in the queen’s contest was Miranda Josey; second runner up Cheyenne Bush; and Kelsye Craft was named Miss Congeniality.
All of the livestock judging is now complete at the Austin County Fair, and the focus turns to today’s (Friday’s) Youth Livestock Auction Sale. The Buyers Appreciation Dinner begins at 11 a.m., followed by the Sale at 12:30. 169 lots will be auctioned off, beginning with the Grand Champions of each category. Montana Hicks’ Grand Champion Lamb will lead off the auction as lot #1, followed by the Grand Champion Broilers shown by Makenzie Menke, the Grand Champion Goat shown by Stewart Poffenberger; and the Grand Champion Halter Heifer shown by Callen Rabius. Lot #5 is Laurie Robbins’ Grand Champion Filly, followed by Blake Supak’s Grand Champion Turkey Hen. The Grand Champion Steer this year was shown by Rayann Rabius. The Grand Champion Rabbits by Kendall Stark; Grand Champion Pen of Heifers by Dalton Kasper; Grand Champion Swine by Avery Oliver; and Grand Champion Gelding by Hattie Schalla.
Tonight’s (Friday’s) entertainment at the Austin County Fair includes Mo Pitney at 8:15, followed by Tracy Lawrence at 10:15.
