AUSTIN COUNTY SEEKS FUNDS FOR ROAD REPAIRS AFTER OIL AND GAS DRILLING

“Drill, baby, drill,” was the cry just a few years ago when gasoline prices approached the four dollar a gallon mark.

Austin County Judge Carolyn Bilski, says oil producers in Texas have responded with an oil and gas drilling boom in the past few years.  She says however, this has come with a cost.  The drilling equipment for oil and gas wells does heavy damage to the roads, leaving the county to do the expensive repairs.

Judge Bilski says Austin County, like Washington County, and much of the surrounding area counties are holding public hearings on the Certified Energy Reinvestment Zone.

The Zone, would allow the county to apply for grants to repair the roads and the county needs to use the ‘CERTZ’ to apply for these grants from the Texas Department of Transportation.

The Austin County Commissioners are meeting today (Monday) at the courthouse in Bellville.
