BASTROP FIRE NOW 60 PERCENT CONTAINED AS OF SUNDAY

  

 Bastrop County Officials are hoping that a wildfire that began last Tuesday may be a step closer to becoming contained, with the fire being approximately 60 percent under control.

As of Sunday, the Hidden Pines fire that has burned approximately 4600 acres and destroyed forty-eight structures.

Bastrop County Judge Paul Pape says that some residents in “green zones” in the northern part of the fire area were able to return to their homes.

There have been six citation issued to residents who don’t follow the burn ban. Anyone who drives past police barricades are being arrested. Residents are being allowed to go into evacuation zones, but are being warned that if they run into trouble, they may have trouble getting assistance.

Bluebonnet Electric will have crews out to assess the outages that have been caused by the fire, and then make the assessment to whether it is safe for those residents to return. Bluebonnets hopes to  restore power by Tuesday.

There is hope that the expected rainfall by the end of the week will aid firefighters in their containment of the fires.
