BATTLESHIP TEXAS TO REOPEN THIS SATURDAY

After leaks jeopardized the integrity on the retired Battleship Texas in La Porte, the historic site was closed for repairs for nearly a week.

The ship will be open again this coming Saturday, June 24th.

The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department announced last Friday that divers were able to complete the patch on the hull of the ship which is berthed just East of Houston.

The 103 year-old vessel had to have water pumped from it, and was closed starting Sunday to visitors.

Listing at 8° to one side at one point, the ship that was commissioned in 1914 is now back to the normal tilt of just under 2°.

The leaks were on the starboard side of the ship, about 15 feet below the waterline.

The ship will welcome guests once again starting Saturday at 10am.
