BEC’s BRENHAM OFFICE SETS SAFETY MILESTONE

Bluebonnet Electric Cooperative’s Brenham-area employees’ safety streak was extended to an impressive 11 years without an accident that caused any of them to miss time on the job.

“Under any circumstance, this is an amazing achievement,” said Matt Bentke, Bluebonnet’s deputy general manager. “But especially given the challenges that our employees faced with the adverse weather in May and June, restoring power around the clock through storms and floods, this is extraordinarily special. It truly speaks to the culture of safety we have created at Bluebonnet.”

The U.S. Occupational Safety and Hazard Administration defines a lost-time accident as one that causes an injury that results in days away from work for the employee.

Bluebonnet has more than 30 employees in the Brenham member service center and the operations service center. In the member service center, employees help new and current members with all aspects of their accounts. Employees in the operations center build new power lines, inspect and maintain existing power lines and equipment, and restore power during outages in all weather conditions, 24 hours a day, every day.

Bluebonnet Electric Cooperative is one of the largest electric cooperatives in Texas and has been serving its members since 1939. Bluebonnet serves nearly 89,000 meters and owns and maintains 11,000 miles of power lines, located across more than 3,800 square miles within 14 Central Texas counties. Bluebonnet’s service area stretches from Travis County to Washington County, and from Milam County to Gonzales County. We’re so proud of our Brenham employees, who enjoyed a celebratory lunch today to mark 11 years without a recordable safety incident. It's rare for the entire campus to be able to get together, but crews and member service representatives from other Bluebonnet offices covered the workload to make it happen. Top leaders, including CEO Mark Rose, pictured with member service supervisor Dyanna Machinsky, left, and member service representative Cindy Machala, came out to praise the group.
