BELLVILLE HIGH SCHOOL SENIOR KILLED IN ROLLOVER ACCIDENT SUNDAY
An incoming senior at Bellville High School was killed late Sunday night in a single-vehicle rollover accident near Bellville.
17-year-old Zachary Hood was driving northbound on FM 1456 around 11:55 p.m. in a 1993 GMC Yukon when, according to DPS Sergeant Stephen Woodard, he lost control of his vehicle after attempting to take a curve in the road, driving into the southbound lane.
Hood, according to Woodard, overcorrected his turn and was ejected from the vehicle after it rolled over. Hood was not wearing a seatbelt. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Woodard considered unsafe driving speed to be a contributing factor in the accident.
Hood was a starter on both the Bellville Brahma football and soccer teams. As a junior on the football team, he earned first-team all-district kicker honors and played regularly at linebacker.
According to a statement from Bellville ISD, services will be held at Schmidt Funeral Home in Bellville. Visitation will be held Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home, followed by a remembrance gathering at 9 p.m. at Brahma Stadium. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2:30 p.m.
How tragic. What a nice looking young man & athlete. Sympathy to his family & friends. May God grant him eternal rest & peace & let perpetual light shine upon him. God bless .
