BELVILLE CITY COUNCIL TO DECIDE ON RAILROAD QUIET ZONES

The Bellville City Council will decide the fate of a proposed railroad quiet zone.

During last week’s Economic Development Corporation meeting, the board approved funding for nearly $169,000 for a railroad quiet zone, from Hacienda to East Glenn.

Approval by the city council would also include, East Third St. and the crossing at Highway 159 and Main St.

The recommendation now moves to the city council for their consideration.  Several area cities, including Brenham, feature Railroad Quiet Zones.

  1. I own property in the city of Bellville. Half the the street it is on is a dirt road. They dug up the pavement for utility repair and never repaved the street. Property taxes go up every year but nothing changes. I would like to see an investment in a quiet zone down my street.

  2. I am not a citizen of Bellville but Mr.Polk should have his street fixed first. Bellville does not have the same problem with train whistles as Brenham. One Brenham had lots of road xings in close proximity so the train would blow non stop as required by federal law. Two max speed thru Brenham 30 MPH or slower. Bellville not so many road dings and speed out max speed 55MPH depending on the train or the restrictions on the train. So not the same problem. Hope they fix your road sir.

  3. Go Figure! I live in one of the towns oldest homes. The street needed major repairs when I moved here 20+yrs ago. It has been passed up for newer homes on much newer streets along with streets with little to not traffic at least 3 times that I know of. You buy next to a railroad deal with it! The tax dollars I spend should not go towards your silencing the train when the road I live on is crud!

  4. The retired Brenham City Civil Engineer did a spectacular service to the City of Brenham in his service to the Brenham Citizens. This Quiet Zone was about eight or nine years ago. I worked with the City of Brenham as a contractor. It was a pleasure back then working with the Brenham Civil Engineer.

    1. Y’all are so lucky to have a quiet zone. The horn is very disruptive. Those who live on tracks and endure the whistle don’t like it and have been bullied to death by others who don’t have to endure it 10 times an hour!! Can’t talk on phone, can’t hear tv, animals go crazy! Newsflash: the 18 wheelers ruin the streets as fast as they can be fixed!!

    2. Bentley,
I appreciate the Brenham no-blow ordinance. My neighborhood is a lot more peaceful. If Brenham could start street maintenance back up that would be good.

      1. Yes! The gravel road to my rural property in Grimes County is in better condition than 75% of the “paved” roads in Brenham. It seems that street maintenance has been ignored the last few years.
