BHS HIRE CHASE WHEATON AS NEW HEAD COACH

The Brenham Independent School District is has announced the hiring of Brenham High School graduate Chase Wheaton for the Brenham High School head baseball coaching position.

“We’re very excited for Chase to lead the Brenham Cub baseball program. Chase has a very strong understanding of the importance of Brenham baseball, relates to kids well, and has a solid character,” said Brenham ISD Athletic Director Eliot Allen.

Chase Wheaton graduated from Brenham High School in 2004 and played baseball at Wharton County Junior College for two years. Wheaton transferred to Texas A&M Corpus-Christi on a baseball scholarship and played for the Islanders for two years, receiving All-Southland Conference honors both seasons. Wheaton graduated from Texas A&M Corpus-Christi in 2009 with a bachelor's degree in kinesiology and spent six seasons teaching and coaching at Brenham High School. Wheaton also spent three seasons at Clear Falls High School, and most recently was the head baseball coach at Pearland High School, where he celebrated a district championship and a 22-8 record. He was also selected as the District 23 6A coach of the year. Wheaton returns to Brenham for his 11th coaching season with his wife Haylee and their three children Tatum (7), Max (5) and Cam (4).

“Cub Nation is thrilled to welcome Brenham High School alumnus Chase Wheaton back to our community and district,” said Superintendent Dr. Walter Jackson. “We know that Chase will be fully committed to our mission and vision, and share in our Brenham Cub pride. We are honored and excited to have you return home, coach!”

Wheaton is the second coach chosen to succeed coach Lanny Williams.  Chris Griffin was originally introduced to take over the program, but then changed his mind the day after he was named to the post.
