BIDS FOR NEW ANIMAL SHELTER GO OUT TODAY

Bids for the new Brenham animal shelter will go out this week.

The new Brenham Pet Adoption and Care Center construction will encompass approximately 8,500 square feet, which is double the size of the current facility, and is expected to cost around $2 million dollars.

The shelter will be built on city property next to the police station, and will contain 105 cages for cats and 73 kennels for dogs.

The source of funding for the shelter will also come from donations from the local community and other sources, and the designated fund already contains$1,932,000, according to Police Chief Rex Phelps.

There has already been a $500,000 anonymous donation.
