BIG OFFENSE LIFTS BUCCANEERS TO SWEEP OVER KILGORE, 13-1 AND 2-0

Blinn softball totals 21 hits and Renna Toomey throws a no-hitter

KILGORE, Texas — The Blinn College softball team (7-7) used an explosive offense and strong pitching performances to sweep Kilgore College Friday.
The Buccaneers totaled 21 hits for 15 runs in the doubleheader against the Rangers. Blinn run-ruled Kilgore in five innings, 13-1, in the first game, and defeated the Rangers, 2-0, in the second game for the sweep.
“We came out and had a lot of offense in the first game, so it was good to see the offense get going again, and Nevada Dolnik did a good job for us pitching,” said Rick Church, Blinn head coach. “In the second game, it was scoreless until the top of the seventh when we got some runners on base and put pressure on their defense to score two runs. Renna Toomey got stronger with every inning and did a good job finishing that game for us on the mound, so it was nice to get those two wins today.”

Blinn 13 – Kilgore 1
Jordyn Smith tallied four RBIs to help lead Blinn to a 13-1 run-rule victory over Kilgore.
Blinn’s offense was explosive, totaling 15 hits. Marley Mahoney was perfect at the plate, going 4-for-4 to score three runs for the Buccaneers. Smith made the most out of three hits to knock in four runs and score one. Mahoney, Mayela Fernandez and Gabi Lopez each drove in two runs in the win.

The Buccaneers added three runs in the second inning as Mikaela Lopez and Smith hit one-run singles, and Samantha Rodriguez scored on a sacrifice fly off the bat off Fernandez. Blinn tacked on four more runs in the third inning as Lopez hit a two-run single, Mahoney hit a one-run single and Rodriguez scored Blinn’s eighth run on an error.
After walking in the bottom of the third inning, Kilgore followed with a double to score its only run of the game.
Blinn sealed the run-rule win with five runs in the fifth inning. Mahoney and Fernandez each had one-run singles, Smith knocked in two runs with a double, and Smith scored on a fly out.

Renna Toomey threw a no-hitter to lead the Buccaneers to a 2-0 win over Kilgore.
Toomey sealed the win after tossing seven scoreless innings without allowing a hit and striking out two.
