BIG POT BUST IN FAYETTE COUNTY

An early afternoon traffic stop on Interstate 10 in Fayette County led to a large marijuana seizure and the arrest of a man from the Rio Grande Valley on felony charges.

Lobos, the Fayette County Sheriff’s office drug dog, sniffed out 35 pounds of marijuana on a pickup truck that had been stopped  near the 659 mile marker, for traffic violations during the noon hour Tuesday.

Deputy Randy Thuman of the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office noted the driver was acting suspiciously and asked to search his pickup.  Lobos did most of the searching and found the marijuana sealed in an oxygen welding cylinder on the bed of the truck.  Twenty-nine year old Jesus Gerardo Vela of Mission was arrested for the felony possession of marijuana.
