BISD BOARD NAMES NEW ALTON ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL

The Brenham ISD School Board named the new assistant principal at Alton Elementary School during their meeting on Monday.

Rachel Peterson will replace Toni Schwartz, who will be the principal at the new Brenham Early Childhood Center.

Peterson currently serves as the school improvement officer for Brenham Elementary School, Krause Elementary School, Brenham Middle School, and Brenham Junior High School.

Peterson began her career in Tomball ISD where she served as an elementary teacher for 9 years, teaching grades pre-kindergarten, first, and second grade. She has also worked in Waller ISD as an ACE coordinator for a junior high after school program. For 2 years, Peterson served as the coordinator and administrator for the junior high summer school program in Waller ISD.

Peterson also worked in Katy ISD as an academic reading support specialist before joining Brenham ISD as a school improvement officer in 2015. Throughout the past 4 years, Peterson has served as an adjunct instructor for the Department of Language, Literacy, & Special Populations at Sam Houston State University where she teaches early childhood education classes. She holds a Master of Education degree with Principal Certification and a Bachelor of Science degree in Academic Studies from Sam Houston State University.

Also during the meeting, three school board incumbents took their oaths of office after being unopposed in the election this year. Washington County Judge John Brieden administered the Oath of Office to Tommie Sullivan (Position 5), Natalie Lange (Position 6), and Melvin Ehlert Jr. (Position 7).

The school board voted to keep the same trustee officers: Lange will stay President of the Board, Ehlert will continue as Vice President, and Susan Jenkins will continue as Secretary.
