BISD BOARD TO DISCUSS FUNDING, MONDAY

The Brenham School board will discuss possible funds for upgrades and maintenance when they meet in special session this (Monday) afternoon.

Board members will hear a report on the Qualified Zone Academy Bond Program.  The program offers funding for projects such as mechanical, electrical and plumbing upgrades.

The money must be used on improving existing facilities and can’t be spent on new construction.

The district received a QZAB loan in 2003 for improvements at the main building on the junior high campus. The final payment on that is in 2018.

BISD also received funds in 2009 for work on other buildings at the junior high and for work on Cub Stadium.

Trustees will also hear an update on unspent funds from the $26 million bonds used to build a new Alton Elementary School and renovations at the middle school campus.

District officials say they expect to have at least $600,000 available that can be spent at any campus for facility projects.

A number of projects are already being considered, including security and safety upgrades; mechanical electrical and plumbing upgrades at Krause Elementary; and renovation of stairwells at the high school.

The board will meet at noon today (Monday) in the administration building at 711 Mansfield.
