BISD SCHOOL BOARD TO ASK FOR WAIVER

Assistant Brenham School District Superintendent Byron McAdams says there have been several days just like today (Tuesday), in which the weather was bad enough to delay the opening of school.  He says when that happens many students simply stay home.

That’s what happened on Friday, January 24th.  School was delayed and when they finally opened the attendance was very low.  McAdams said the attendance 77 percent of what they were on January 24th the previous year.

Since the Texas Education Agency determines funding according to attendance the BISD needs to apply for a waiver.  McAdams says that’s what the School Board will do during a special Thursday meeting at the high school.

He says the TEA allows for the waiver but the district has to ask for it.

The BISD Board is meeting Thursday due to spring break and the difficulty in getting the package of the agenda ready for the March meeting.

The Board will also get an update on construction of the new Alton Elementary and the renovations at the Middle School during the meeting.  McAdams says the irregular weather has made the construction work difficult but says the schools will be ready for the first day of classes for the school year 2014-15.

The Brenham School Board will meet Thursday at six at the High School Lecture room.
