BISD TO IMPLEMENT ‘STEAM’ PROGRAM IN FALL

The Brenham ISD will be implementing the STEAM Program on its elementary school campuses, beginning this fall.

The Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics program begins in the 2018-2019 school year on all three elementary campuses.

Dr. Jamey Johnson, Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction, says the district believes that STEAM is an avenue for all students to engage in collaborative, innovative experiences using critical thinking skills and hands-on activities.”

Each elementary campus will have a designated STEAM teacher, trained by Project Lead the Way, an organization that develops curricula for use by elementary, middle, and high schools.

BISD Superintendent Dr. Walter Jackson says, “A full-scaled STEAM academy on all three elementary campuses in a district of this size is unheard of.”

Jackson goes on to say he, “can’t imagine a parent not wanting their child to be enrolled in a program of this caliber.”
