The Blinn Board of Trustees approved the next step towards the construction of its new campus in Bryan.  The board voted to accept the guaranteed maximum price of 38.8 million dollars from Vaughn Construction for phase one of the project.  The 95 acre campus will allow Blinn to develop additional science, technology, engineering and mathematics offerings and expand its workforce, technical, research and health-related education programs.

Richard O’Malley, Blinn’s Director of Facility Planning and Construction, reviewed the costs for the project with the board.  Soft cost for the new campus, such as furniture, lab equipment and architecture cost are projected to be 7.7 million, bringing the total cost for the project to 46.5 million.  The new campus is expected to be ready for students in the fall of 2017.  O’Malley summed up his presentation with this:

The project will be funded by bonds that were issued last year and a series that will be issued Tuesday of next week.  Blinn plans for the new campus to host 15,000 students as a complement to its campus on Villa Maria Road.
