BLINN BOARD TO CONSIDER NEW STUDENT HOUSING IN BRENHAM

The Blinn College Board of Trustees will consider a resolution authorizing a privatized student housing project on the Brenham campus.

In November, the board authorized Blinn administrators to negotiate with Servitas LLC regarding the development of new student housing. The project would house 453 students on Blinn property at the corner of Saeger Street and Old Mill Creek Road.

According to Blinn officials, the project will be funded by National Campus and Community Development-Blinn College Properties, a nonprofit organization established to provide tax-exempt financing specifically for this project.

The College and NCCD would then enter into a 40-year ground lease. Upon loan repayment by NCCD, the facility will revert to Blinn.

The project would not impact Blinn’s ability to proceed with its new Bryan West campus, which is also expected to open in the Fall of 2017.

Also at this evening's (Tuesday) meeting, the board is expected to award a guaranteed maximum price to Vaughn Construction for Phase 1 development of its new Bryan campus.

Phase 1 of the project, which would serve approximately 2,500 students, includes an academic building, a student resource building and approximately 800 parking spaces.

The meeting is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. this evening (Tuesday) on the third floor of the Brenham campus Administration Building at 802 Green St.
