BLINN BOARD TO DISCUSS RENOVATION PLAN FOR W.L. MOODY JR. LIBRARY

The Blinn Board of Trustees will meet Tuesday in Bryan to discuss proposed renovations for the W.L. Moody, Jr. Library.

The potential renovation of the library would feature improved lighting, upgraded electrical and technology connectivity, upgrades to the HVAC system, and restroom improvements.

The board will look to award a contract for construction manager at-risk services for the renovations.

Construction is expected to begin February 1st, 2019.  The budget is projected at $2 million, with funds coming from bonds and the repairs and renovations budget.

Communications Director Richard Bray says he expects renderings of the facility to be available at the meeting.

Also on the agenda, administrators will look to authorize seeking proposals from contractors, to relocate Health Sciences’ equipment to the RELLIS Campus. Bray says all of the Health Science programs located at the Texas A&M Health Science Center Clinical Building will be moved to RELLIS.

Those programs include EMS, Physical Therapist Assistant, Radiologic Technology, Health Information Technology, Surgical Technology, Vocational Nursing, and Associate Degree Nursing.

The board will also consider using aluminum windows with “historic profiles” for the Old Main Building on the Brenham Campus. Bray says, since the building is on the Historic Registry, the school generally has to maintain a similar appearance for it.  The replacement windows will look the same as the originals, but will be made of aluminum rather than wood.

In addition, the board will look at implementing a men’s and women’s golf program. If approved, the program would begin in Fall 2019.

Trustees will also hear a series of reports, and expect to meet in executive session.

The board will meet Tuesday at 6 p.m., at Room 480 of the Walter C. Schwartz Building at the RELLIS Campus, 3100 Riverside Parkway in Bryan.

  1. Why is the Blinn Board meeting in Bryan? Brenham is Home for Blinn. Why is the Board not meeting at their Home location; this being Brenham? Washington County pays Blinn College Property Taxes. If Blinn College cannot hold their meetings at Home where property taxes are collected; then, Washington County Citizens should not pay Blinn College Property Taxes.
