Alec Sanchez and Blake Faecher combine for nine RBIs in doubleheader

BRENHAM, Texas — Alec Sanchez and Blake Faecher combined for nine RBIs in Friday’s doubleheader to lead Blinn College baseball (19-14, 12-10) to a sweep over Galveston College.
The Buccaneers run-ruled the Whitecaps 11-1 in five innings to open the doubleheader before defeating Galveston 2-0 in the second game.

Blinn 11 – Galveston 1
Nine runs in the second inning allowed the Buccaneers to coast to an 11-1 run-rule victory in five innings against Galveston to open the doubleheader.
Alec Sanchez led Blinn’s offense with four RBIs, while Blake Faecher followed with three. Reggie McCalister and Brett Minninch each scored two runs in the win.
Jackson Leath recorded the win on the mound after throwing four innings and only allowing one run on two hits.
Blinn took off with a 9-0 lead in the second inning after Sanchez sparked the offense with a three-run triple that allowed Minninch, Westley Schields and Preston Hoffart to score. Sanchez scored Blinn’s fourth run on an error and Jake Miller scored the next run when McCalister was hit by a pitch. Faecher’s double drove in three more runs as Cameron Gibbons, Gray Rodgers and McCalister all scored. Faecher scored Blinn’s final run of the inning on an error.
Galveston scored its only run of the day in the second inning.
The Buccaneers added their final two runs to the scoreboard in the fourth inning when Schields and Sanchez each walked the bases loaded for McCalister and Minninch to score.

Blinn 2 – Galveston 0
Two runs in the third inning is all it took to lead Blinn to a 2-0 victory over Galveston to claim the sweep.
Sanchez and Faecher each drove in one run, while Sanchez and Miller each scored one run to lead Blinn’s offense.
Ryan Day recorded the win after pitching five innings and only allowing one hit. Grayson Smith was also solid out of the bullpen, throwing two innings and only giving up one hit.
Blinn landed on the board in the third inning after Sanchez hit a solo home run. Miller scored Blinn’s final run in the same inning when Faecher walked the bases loaded.
Next, Blinn will travel to face Galveston in the final game of the conference series on Monday, April 8, at 2 p.m.
