Black History Exhibit at Star of the Republic Museum Opens Feb. 1

Star of the Republic Museum will celebrate Black History Month with the opening of a yearlong exhibit capturing the spirit of 19th-century black Texans and the challenges they faced before, during and after the Civil War.

Located at Washington-on-the-Brazos State Historic Site, the museum will display “Enduring Spirit: African Americans in 19th Century Texas” Feb. 1, 2015 through Feb. 15, 2016. Artifacts on display include slave records, freedmen contracts and an oath of allegiance. Stoneware pottery made at Wilson Pottery near Seguin, the first African American business in Texas, will be exhibited, as well as an example of the intricate Pine Burr pattern quilt.

No admission fee to the museum will be charged on opening day, Feb. 1, or any Saturday in February.

Associate Degree Nursing Program Information Session, Feb. 4

The Associate Degree Nursing Program will host the first of four information sessions for prospective students at 5:30 p.m. Feb. 4 at the Texas A&M Health Science Center campus located at 8441 State Highway 47 in Bryan. Veterinary Technology Program Online Information Sessions

The Veterinary Technology Program now offers online information sessions for prospective students at www.blinn.edu/twe/vet_tech/info_meetings.php. The deadline to apply for Fall 2015 admission is May 31.

Local part-time job listings available

Local employers who have part-time job openings for Blinn College students may list those opportunities with the job listings service provided by the college advising and counseling center. Medical Office Technician class offered

Blinn College’s A.W. Hodde Jr. Technical Education Center is offering a course that delivers the needed knowledge for job seekers to be competitive in the high-demand medical office technician field this spring. The program will run Jan. 13 through May 27, with classes taking place Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 5-9 p.m. The program consists of six classes. Students can pay for the entire program at once or pay at the beginning of each course. To register, call 979-830-4443 or visit www.blinn.edu/blinntec.

Career & Technical Training Scholarships

Scholarships are available for students pursuing a variety of programs, including Machining, CNC Machining, Welding, Certified Nurse Aide, Phlebotomy, Medical Office Technician, and more.  To see if you qualify, and to review program offerings, visit our website or call to make an appointment with our Workforce Advisor.  Free GED Classes are available Monday evenings at the Hodde Center through Community Education and full workforce program scholarships are available for students pursuing both a GED and qualified training programs.  For more info, call 979-830-4443 or visit www.blinn.edu/workforce.

The Blinn College Technical Education program housed in the A.W. Hodde Jr. Technical Education Center offers classes in machining, electrical technology, office and administrative support and health fields such as phlebotomy, medical office assistant, certified nurse’s aide and certified medication aide throughout the Fall. Workforce Education classes available The Blinn College Workforce Education program has numerous classes available in the areas of Health, Applied Technology, Career and Professional Development, Computers and Information Technology and Continuing Education.
