BLINN FOUNDATION STUDENT ART SHOW

The Blinn College Visual Arts Program will host its debut art show on Wednesday from noon to five pm at the Whigham House at 902 College Avenue.

Fine Arts Professor Doug Peck says the opportunity to display work allows students a chance to complete the creative process.

Visual Arts Students Amy McArthur, Faith Nutt, Scott Nies, Joseph Giles, Jacob Burghard and Chase Duncan are featuring their art in the show.

While visitors view the student’s displays, they will also get the opportunity to learn more about the Blinn Foundation and meet its staff and Foundation Executive Director Susan Myers,

Myers began her duties in July after serving more than a decade as executive director of the Holocaust Museum in Houston.

The Foundation supports programs and activities that enhance the quality of education for Blinn College students and expand the educational opportunities for the entire community.  While raising funds is an important function, the Foundation also seeks to heighten community awareness of the mission and accomplishments of the College to promote excellence in education.01014SUSANMYERS

The foundation began in 2000 and since then has raised $10 million for Blinn College.  Those funds have been used to help launch major construction projects  across Blinn’s College campuses, including the A.W. Hodde Jr., Technical Education Center, the J. Hal and Allyne Machat Music Facility, the Bill Rankin Agriculture Complex and the Bert and Mae Dean Wheeler Residence Hall.

An additional $1 million has been spent purchasing classroom equipment and supplies requested by Blinn faculty.l  The Foundation has also established a $4.5 million in new endowed scholarships.
