BLINN HOLDING SECOND PUBLIC HEARING ON TAX RATE THURSDAY

The public will have another chance to offer comment Thursday on Blinn College’s proposed tax rate.

Blinn’s first public hearing last week on its proposed rate of 5.6 cents per $100 drew no comments from the public.

The new rate is higher than the effective rate of 5.28 cents per $100, but lower than last year’s rate of 6.01 cents per $100.  It is expected to bring in $2.1 million in tax revenue to support Brenham Campus maintenance and operations.

The rate is expected to average about $8.75 in monthly taxes on the average Washington County home, valued at $199,906.

The board of trustees is expected to vote on the new rate at its regular monthly meeting next Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.

The public hearing is scheduled for Thursday afternoon at 5:30 p.m., in the Brenham Campus Administration Building.
