BLINN HOMECOMING RAISES MONEY FOR CASA

Luis Grijalva and Myra Hernandez did more this weekend than bask in the glory of being named Blinn Homecoming King and Queen:  They also raised thousands of dollars for Court Appointed Special Advocates of Washington County.

Grijalva, a sophomore from Wallis and Hernandez, a sophomore from Brenham, both represented the Hispanic Organization for Latino Awareness Student Organization and their campaigns raised money for CASA.

Dean of Student Life Mordicai Brownlee said their efforts were ‘outstanding’ and was part of the college’s student leadership model.  This model, he says, shows off how the students can help benefit and make an impact on their immediate community.  Brownlee said the students are buying into the new record as a new testament to their ideals and to making an impact on their community and its needs.

The Blinn Homecoming Royalty raised a record $6367 benefitting CASA for Kids.  CASA For Kids is a new non-profit organization that benefits abused and neglected children.  The fundraising effort brought in nearly three thousand dollars more than last year’s Blinn Homecoming Drive.
