BLINN OFFERS FIRE CHEMISTRY, SAFETY COURSES IN BRENHAM THIS FALL

Blinn College’s highly regarded Fire Science Program will offer fire chemistry and safety courses on the Brenham Campus for the first time this Fall.

Based on the Bryan Campus, Blinn’s Fire Science Program was developed in response to local and national needs for an advanced degree in the field of fire protection, and is partnered with Texas Engineering Extension Service (TEEX), the nation’s most comprehensive firefighter training and emergency services instructional entity. Thanks to that partnership, Blinn fire science students participate in rigorous classroom instruction in fire safety, life safety, and program management before students receive 12 weeks of training with TEEX at Brayton Fire Training Field in College Station.

In the Fall semester, Blinn will offer OSHT 1301: Introduction to Safety and Health and FIRT 1333: Fire Chemistry I. Fire Chemistry I, which covers the chemical nature and properties of compounds as related to the fire service, meets from 3-5:10 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays. The course meets Fire and Emergency Services Higher Education Model Curriculum core requirements.

Introduction to Safety and Health will meet from 3-5:10 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays.

The Fire Science Program offers selected courses on the Brenham Campus each semester to ensure that prospective students in Brenham and the surrounding communities have affordable access to top-quality fire science training.

“We want to offer students as many choices as possible,” said Nathan Sivils, Program Director. “We want to make it as convenient as possible for students throughout our service area to complete our program.”

Students can complete most of their lecture coursework online before participating in the field portions of the program at Brayton Fire Training Field.
