BLINN OFFERS REFRESHER COURSE FOR CNA AND MEDICATION AIDES

  

Blinn College will host refresher courses for certified medication aides and certified nurse aides looking to update their knowledge and skills.

Blinn will host eight-hour, single-day certified nurse aide refreshers at the Post Office campus located at 301 Post Office Street in Bryan on Saturday, Oct. 17, and Saturday, Nov. 21. These refreshers include specific training and review in geriatrics and the care of residents with a dementia disorder (including Alzheimer’s disease), duties and responsibilities, professionalism and professional boundaries, communication, specimen collection, accident prevention and health care skills such as measuring patients’ height and weight and taking patients’ temperature, pulse, respiration and blood pressure.

The Texas Department of Aging and Disability Services (DADS) requires certified nurse aides to complete at least 24 hours of in-service education every two years to renew their certification.

The single-day, 8-hour certified medication aide refreshers will be offered:

  • Friday, Oct. 16, at the Blinn-Sealy campus located at 3701 Outlet Mall Dr., #250 in Sealy;
  • Saturday, Oct. 17, and Saturday, Nov. 14, at the A.W. Hodde, Jr. Technical Education Center located at 2910 S. Blue Bell Road in Brenham;
  • and Saturday, Oct. 17, and Saturday, Nov. 21 at the Post Office Campus located at 301 Post Office Street in Bryan.

These refreshers include specific training and review in the preparation and administration of medications, documentation, licensing standards, the safeguarding of medications, common drug reactions and side effects and updated and new medications available on the market. Students who successfully complete the course will receive an updated certified medication aide permit from the state.

DADS requires certified medication aides to complete at least seven hours of in-service education annually.
