BLINN’S A.W.HODDE CENTER OFFERS MEDICAL OFFICE TRAINING

Blinn’s College’s A.W. Hodde, Jr. Technical Education Center is offering the customer service and health care knowledge job seekers need to be competitive in the high-demand medical office technician field this spring.

Blinn’s Medical Office Technician Program will run Jan. 13 through May 27, with classes taking place Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 5-9 p.m.

Medical Office Technicians, also called medical secretaries, perform secretarial duties using specific knowledge of medical terminology and hospital, clinic or laboratory procedures. Duties may include scheduling appointments, billing patients and compiling or recording medical charts, reports and correspondence.

“Medical office technicians are in high demand throughout the Brazos Valley,” said David Yeager, Hodde Center director. “This training gives applicants an advantage in the hiring process and allows local medical facilities to hire employees who can hit the ground running.”

Blinn’s program consists of six classes – Beginning Computers, Administrative Office Procedures I, Introduction to Public Health, Language of Public Health, Customer Service in the Health Profession and the capstone course in which students observe a medical office technician at work.

Students can pay for the entire program at once or pay at the beginning of each course. To register, call 979-830-4443 or visit: www.blinn.edu/blinntec.

The 12,000-square foot Hodde Center was built in 2009 to provide local training for a quality, viable workforce in Washington and the surrounding communities. Its staff works in cooperation with local businesses to provide a well-trained workforce that strengthens the local economy.

The Hodde Center is part of Blinn’s Division of Workforce Education, which offers affordable job training in Brenham, Bryan, Schulenburg and Sealy. For more information, visit: www.blinn.edu/workforce.
