BOYS & GIRLS CLUB TO HOST SUMMER ‘SAFETY DAY’

Teaching kids how to have a safe summer will be the focus of the 2nd annual “Safety Day” at the Washington County Boys and Girls Club next week.

Through a partnership with Texas AgriLife Extension Service, the Boys and Girls Club will host “Safety Day” next Tuesday, June 5th at 9 a.m.  Extension Agent Mary Sanders says the event is growing, with a number of organizations participating in teaching safety in a variety of settings.  The Brenham Fire Department will focus on water safety.  Bluebonnet Electric Cooperative will give demonstrations on electrical safety, and the Washington County Constables will discuss gun safety.

Wendy Frazier, a Director for the Boys and Girls Club, says one of the most popular demonstrations is the Rollover Simulator.  Kids get to experience what happens when you don’t have your seatbelt fastened during an accident.  Frazier says the Baylor Scott and White Hospital booth will demonstrate first aid, the Pilot Club of Brenham will present information about bicycle safety, and a biologist will talk about snake safety.  There will also be booths at “Safety Day” dealing with ATV Safety, Stranger Danger, and Texting and Driving.

Frazier says 250 students attended last year’s “Safety Day”, and they are expecting at least 300 this year.  The event, which is free of charge, is open to all kids and begins at 9 a.m. Tuesday, June 5th at the Washington County Boys and Girls Club at 1710 East Tom Green Street in Brenham.

  1. Is this event open to the public for kids who are not old enough for boys and girls yet? or to kids who are not members?
