Brad Tegeler, the general counsel for the Tegeler Family Auto Dealerships, was sworn in by Secretary of the Texas Senate Patsy Spaw, during the Commission’s regular meeting Thursday at the Lorenzo de Zavala State Archives and Library Building in Austin.

Tegeler, currently of Austin, was appointed to the Commission by Governor Greg Abbott on January 14th, with a term to expire September 2025.  Tegeler replaces Michael C. Waters of Dallas, who had served on the Commission since 2008 and as chair since 2012.

As general counsel for the Tegeler Family Auto Dealerships, Tegeler oversees and manages all legal matters related to three franchised automotive dealerships across the state of Texas. He previously spent 13 years working for members of the Texas Senate and Texas House of Representatives in various leadership roles.

Tegeler is a member of the South Texas College of Law Alumni Board and the Texas Masonic Lodge, and a volunteer for the Ronald McDonald House in Austin. He received a bachelor of arts in political science from St. Edwards University, a Juris Doctor degree from South Texas College of Law, and a Masters of Laws in international commerce business from University of East Anglia – Norwich, United Kingdom.

Along with Tegeler’s appointment, Abbott appointed Commissioner Martha Wong of Houston as Chair of the Commission; Wong’s term expires in September 2021. Commissioner David Garza of Brownsville was reappointed, with a term to expire September 2025.

The Texas State Library and Archives Commission is the governing board of the agency with which it shares a name. It aims to preserve the archival record of Texas; enhance the service capacity of public, academic, and school libraries; assist public agencies in the maintenance of their records; and meet the reading needs of Texans with disabilities.
