BRAZOS RIVER AUTHORITY PROPOSES CHANGES

The Brazos River Authority is proposing changes to lakes in its system—including Lake Somerville.

The Authority board is currently accepting public comments on those proposed rules changes.

The changes include revisions to existing rules and removing items that apply to both lakeside property owners and those utilizing the reservoirs for recreational purposes.

Among the changes being considered are:

A 15 minute limit on mooring at BRA courtesy docks;  Clarifying permitting requirements for on-water facilities;  Allowing rooftop areas on the on-water facility to be utilized as sundecks, but limiting on-water facilities to one story; Increasing the maximum size of residential on-water facilities to 2,000 square feet;  Removing limits on the number of personal watercraft that can be stored on an on-water facility, as long as there is no unreasonable hazard or overcrowding;  and, increasing the number of days a campsite may be utilized from 7 to 10 days.

Comments will be accepted through Oct. 16.

The BRA’s board will vote on the proposed changes at its Oct. 27 meeting.

Proposed rule changes can be viewed and comments made at www.brazos.org/RulesandRegs.asp.
